Dr. Harms BIO

Since picking up the guitar in junior high, David Harms has been steadily forming, a solid musical foundation built upon musicianship, honesty, songwriting, and respect for music. Originally from Tiffin, Ohio, David was exposed to music by both of his grandfathers who played in Big Bands and his mother who played in rock bands. This early exposure to different musical styles and influences helped embed an appreciation for multiple styles of music, arrangements, and instruments.

Throughout the 1990s, David performed around the Midwest in the band Tinfoil opening for Select Records recording artist Damien and playing the same venues as Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, and Kid Rock. The band has released 20 full-length albums and an assortment of Eps and singles.  Harms opened a commercial recording studio, Junk Studios in 2005, which he continues to operate today. The studio has recorded a plethora of bands as diverse as hard rock band Facing The Demons to the current incarnation of the Glen Miller Orchestra. Junk Studios has grown from a 16 track analog recording complex in 1995 to a modern Protools system.

In 2000, Harms returned to school eventually earning a Bachelors's, Masters's, and finally a Ph.D. in Educational Technology. He relocated to Toledo, Ohio, and is currently is both a full-time teacher at Penta Career Center and an adjunct professor at Lourdes University.

Dave Harms released his first solo album in 2014 entitled Fall In Love With Me Again. Harms played all of the instruments on the record. The record was inspired by a Fulbright trip studying the Holocaust in Europe and includes both “The Song Is Gone” a song written about a small town in Poland and “White Rain” inspired by a Holocaust survivor’s description of the ashes at Auschwitz–Birkenau.

Harms continues to be an active participant in the Northwest Ohio music scene. He is currently a guitarist in Medusa's Ex. Medusa's Ex is an all original Midwest metal band that combines musicianship and melodies Formed from the demise of Angola Road in 2019, Medusa's Ex is currently mixing their debut album.
